When I started my business I had no idea where to start with logos… I’m no graphic designer, so for the first two years of my business I didn’t truly have an “identity”. I knew Etsy could have been my first stop for logos since there’s a ton people who offer custom logo designs who are very talented (sadly a lot of ‘wannabee’ ones, too), I was still very skeptical about using anyone from there but, I didn’t have a $2,000 dollar  budget to work with a professional graphic designer on full branding.

At the beginning of the year I set a few goals for my business and re-branding was one at the very top of my list, it simply needed to happen!! I gave it way too much thought and searched everywhere for help about creating my logo…  I contacted a few local designers and unfortunately I either never heard back or again pricing was too high. I ended up  back on Etsy. I found a million+ custom logo designers and finally stumbled upon one that caught my eye… Rachel Lewis with Aniya Jade Photography & Designs she was the sweetest and easiest person to work with and was a true professional!!! Rachel worked with me for weeks to get me exactly what I wanted for a fraction of the cost. I sent her my ideas and made a board for her of the things I loved, she started designing right away. She’s very patient and has so many ideas and is honestly AMAZING at what she does!  That was the beginning of everything… So, why birds? In 2008 when I found out that I was having a baby girl (Camila Sofia) I immediately started to decorate her nursery with birds because to me they represent freedom and somehow they give me a peaceful feeling and that’s the feeling I wanted for her room, and also because I think they are stickin’ cute! Since this was a very important event in my life I wanted to mark it some how.

To start off here is part of the Marketing Board I received from Aniya Jade Photography & Designs - The watermark is my handwriting, Rachel transformed it to a PSD file for me, once it goes on an image I can change the opacity and make it more transparent, the blog header is also her design based on an idea I got from other inspiration boards, she also created some tri-folds which I’m using for my pricing and other info, there’s also stickers and CD labels among other cute marketing items. Thank you so much, Rachel!!! It was truly a pleasure to have worked with you!

If you’re a photographer; I hope you have found some value to this information and hope that it leads you to the right direction and inspires you to create your own ideas. In today’s photography market it is very hard to be original, different, unique or whatever you want to call it. But it isn’t hard to be your own self. I have talked and heard this from sooooo many photographers about ‘copying’ others wording, pricing structure,  logos, combination of colors etc. It is one thing to use other photographer’s pages to find inspiration and another thing to rip someone off. Always keep in mind that the person who did the original design worked hard at it. Don’t go the shortcut route trust me, you will eventually be caught and all you will gain then is a nasty reputation and you will find yourself back where you started.

Camila was only 6 months her first Easter, the second Easter she still didn’t quite understand how it all worked however, this year was loads of fun for her and her cousins Ella & Lili… although at times Camila got upset because the other girls would beat her to the eggs she still got a basket full of goodies (Yay for Mommy and putting up with the sugar overload child).
